Seyi Makinde

Biography

Oluseyi Abiodun Makinde; born 25 December 1967 is a Nigerian engineer, businessman, and politician who has served as the governor of Oyo State since 2019.

Seyi Makinde represents a different kind of leadership, one built on results, accountability and a clear commitment to making systems work for people.

ECONOMY

Nigeria stands at a defining economic crossroads. While reforms have brought some stability, millions of Nigerians still struggle with inflation, unemployment, and limited opportunities. The economy should work for the people, not against them. A strong economy is not measured by statistics alone, but by how well it improves the daily lives of ordinary people. Today, that connection remains broken.

A Seyi Makinde administration will drive bold economic reforms through a new approach designed to change the direction of the economy.

HEALTH

Nigeria’s healthcare system stands at a critical point, where access to quality and affordable care is increasingly under threat. A nation cannot truly prosper when the health of its people is at risk. The system is burdened by underfunding, shortage of medical professionals, and weak infrastructure, making even basic healthcare difficult and expensive for many Nigerians.

A Seyi Makinde administration will drive bold health reforms through a new approach focused on improving access, strengthening facilities, and delivering better healthcare for all Nigerians.

EDUCATION

Nigeria’s education sector is facing a deep and widening learning crisis that poses a serious threat to national development. Despite a structured 6-3-3-4 system, millions of children remain out of school, with an estimated 18.5 million not receiving formal education as of 2026—one of the highest figures globally. At its core, this crisis reflects a system under pressure, where underfunding, insecurity, and structural weaknesses continue to limit access, quality, and outcomes. A Seyi Makinde administration will drive bold education reforms through a new approach aimed at transforming access, improving quality, and strengthening learning outcomes nationwide.

SECURITY

Security is the foundation of national stability, yet in Nigeria it has become a major national challenge. From terrorism in the North-East to banditry, kidnapping, communal violence, and other emerging threats, insecurity has become a nationwide crisis that continues to weaken development and disrupt livelihoods. Nigeria’s security situation reflects deep structural and operational challenges that require urgent attention and a new direction.

A Seyi Makinde administration will drive bold security reforms through a new approach focused on restoring safety, strengthening national security systems, and protecting lives and property across all regions.

POWER

Electricity is the backbone of any modern economy, yet in Nigeria it remains unreliable, unstable, and grossly inadequate. Businesses are constrained, industries are weakened, and millions of households depend on generators. Despite an installed capacity of over 13,000 MW, Nigeria struggles to deliver even a fraction of that, leaving the country trapped in recurring blackouts, rising energy costs, and lost economic opportunities.

A Seyi Makinde administration will drive bold power sector reforms through a new approach focused on stabilising electricity supply, expanding access, and restoring efficiency across the value chain.

YOUTH EMPOWERMENT

Nigeria’s greatest asset is its youth population, yet this strength is being underutilised. Millions of young Nigerians are unemployed, underutilised, and disconnected from meaningful opportunities. Nigeria’s youth represent potential, but that potential is constrained by structural challenges in the economy, education system, and governance framework.

A Seyi Makinde administration will drive bold youth empowerment reforms through a new approach focused on creating opportunities, expanding skills development, and unlocking the full potential of young Nigerians.

GOVERNANCE, RULE OF LAW & INSTITUTIONS

The rule of law is the foundation of any functioning democracy, yet in Nigeria its strength is increasingly undermined. Court decisions are sometimes ignored, institutions are weakened, and public confidence in the system continues to fall. When the rule of law is weak, governance suffers, corruption grows, and citizens lose faith in the state.

A Seyi Makinde administration will drive bold governance reforms through a new approach focused on strengthening institutions, restoring respect for the rule of law, and rebuilding public trust in government.
